Event description
Join us and discover how to grow food with your school or group that will give you delicious fresh produce all year round.

About this Event

Nothing quite compares to how a young person feels when they pull that first carrot out of the ground or taste a pea fresh from the pod. This awe and wonder is hard to replicate in a classroom.

That's why we've designed The Edible Garden - a fun and hands-on course which will help give you and your young people the skills and inspiration to set up a simple productive garden, and manage your growing space throughout the seasons.

This course will cover all the basics so that you can get children actively involved in growing their own food, learning more about where food comes from and even tasting new fruit or veg they may never have tried before.

This course is suitable for anyone working with children in a school or educational group setting, aged 5-11.

Objectives of the course:

• Understand how plants grow from a seed to a crop

• Identify the parts of the plant that you eat

• Learn how to prepare the soil to get the best yields

• Learn how to sow and grow a delicious range of vegetables throughout the year

• Make the most of your produce once it has been harvested

Skill level: Beginner

Suitable for Key Stages: 1 and 2 (age 5-11)

Tutor: Sharon McMasters

The RHS Campaign for School Gardening works with thousands of schools and groups every year, providing resources, guidance and training in order to give young people more access to nature.
