Frequently asked questions

What can I expect at the event?

Visitors will enter the Cathedral during their 15 minute timed entry slot and then walk around the building, following a planned route, to experience the lightshow. The walls and ceiling of the Cathedral will be illuminated with bright moving projections in an immersive sound and light installation.

How strict are the arrival and departure times?

Please arrive promptly for the admission time (not before it) on your ticket as it may not be possible to admit latecomers. The time on your ticket is the start of a 15 minute entry window meaning if your ticket says 7.00pm you will enter between 7.00–7.15pm.

Can I change the date and time of my ticket or get a refund?

You can exchange your tickets for a different date in advance (if there is availability) or get your ticket refunded up to 14 days before your booked slot. Refund requests that fall within two weeks of your booked slot will not be accepted.

Will we have to queue up to get in?

Yes, for a short while during the busier time slots. We ask you to arrive at the start of your ticket time (and not before) so that you can be admitted promptly.

Is this event wheelchair accessible?

Yes, there is level access both inside and outside the Cathedral.

Where should we park?

Please note that there is no parking at the Cathedral. Please see the City Council website for nearby parking locations - https://www.leicester.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/parking-in-leicester/where-to-park | The nearest Blue Badge car parks are: Applegate, Dover Street and Newarke Street.

Food and Drink

A range of refreshments will be available to purchase at the event.

Do under 3s require a ticket?

Under 3s are free and do not require a ticket, just your own and anyone else in your party. For young ages we would recommend attending one of the earlier time slots, especially the accessible sessions with reduced sound levels (on the Tuesday and Wednesday from 4.45–5.45pm).

Organized by

A warm welcome to you all from Leicester Cathedral.

Leicester Cathedral is at the physical heart of our city and county. Our church, built on the site of a Roman temple and dedicated to St Martin of Tours, has been embedded in the public, economic, cultural and religious life of this community since medieval times. Since 1927, as the seat of the Bishop of Leicester, we now gather people together for worship, celebration, lament, debate and service of the poor and vulnerable. We offer hospitality to the wider church, the communities of faith which make up our multicultural society and those who come as visitors to the East Midlands, especially in search of the story of King Richard III.

We have found here that God’s love is liberating, transcending all the barriers that separate us and calling us to be a pilgrim people. We meet Jesus Christ afresh daily as we serve those most in physical or spiritual need. Every day we see that those who come as strangers so often leave as friends.

We are open for worship and visiting most days –  we invite you to come and see and to join with us in this adventure.
