Description

British timber firms that operated in Burma (today, Myanmar) mobilised the labour of large herds of semi-captive elephants.
The archival collections of some of these companies contain photograph albums
that capture the lives of these charismatic animals. Using images from Steel Brothers and Company, Dr Jonathan Saha will talk about what they meant at the time and how they can
be understood today.
