Description

Global markets are at record levels and confidence continues to strengthen but surely boom will always turn to bust?

The question for UK investors is, how long will it take for a downturn to take place and what can be done to protect your investments and your businesses from the impact?

Fairstone Financial Management, the UK’s largest corporate Chartered planning firm invites you to join them at Jesmond Dene House on Tuesday 5 December 2017 to discuss the economic outlook for 2018.

Our panel of experts includes Alex Odd, former manager of the M&G Dividend, one of the largest income funds in the UK, who will discuss current UK markets and what we can expect as we move into 2018.

Joining Alex are Stephen Hall, senior partner at Deloitte and Joanna Berry, regional chair of the Institute of Directors (IOD) who will share their views on how we can prepare for 2018 from both a tax and a regional perspective.

Our panel includes:

Alex Odd, Fairstone
Alex began his career in financial services as a trainee auditor at PWC in 1995 before moving to Jupiter Asset Management the following year. He then joined M&G in 2005 to run income funds and global fund of funds. He was recognised for being one of the very few income managers to grow investors’ income over the financial crisis and nominated as Income Fund of the year by Investment Week. After leaving M&G in 2013, he returned to his native north east to launch OAM in 2014. He is now working with Fairstone to develop the Fairstone Private Wealth range of portfolios.

Stephen Hall, Deloitte
Stephen is the senior partner at Deloitte’s Newcastle office. He has worked for the firm for 25 years where he has advised many public and private sector organisations on all aspects of direct tax. He also heads up the Private Client Practice for the North East. Stephen was named Tax Adviser of the Year in the North East Accountancy Awards in 2009 and 2014.

Joanna Berry, IOD
Joanna is associate professor in entrepreneurship at Durham University Business School and regional chair of the IoD; she was regional chair for the CIM for seven years and still sits on the NECC’s International Trade Committee. Joanna was born and brought up in the North East and remains passionate about increasing the profile and prosperity of the region, with a particular and personal emphasis on supporting women in (and into) business, particularly the STEM subjects. Following a career in international business development she founded and ran many SMEs, nationally and regionally. She has been mentor to many Business Enterprise companies and still mentors senior individuals in large and small corporate organisations.
