Workshop: The Elm Action Map: telling the story of Assynt's elm trees
Following on from our successful funding application to University of St Andrews for The Elm Action Map (TEAM), we would like to invite you to a workshop on 7th August 2025. There will be two parts to the workshop:
- Pathology workshop 14:00-15:30: we are delighted that Joan Webber, from Forest Research, will be presenting a short workshop on the identification and potential spread of Dutch Elm disease (DED). Attendees: project partners, elm volunteers and some local land managers.
- Project workshop 15:45-18:00 : TEAM project members will discuss layers of data and future tasks and responsibilities for the emerging Story Map. The StoryMap and associated activities will synthesise information, raise the profile of Assynt’s distinctive elms and improve efforts to monitor and protect them.
Location: The Rock Stop A894 Unapool, by, Kylesku, Lairg IV27 4HW
Light refreshments will be provided at 15:30. Whilst all are welcome to the pathology workshop, we envisage that mostly TEAM members will attend the project workshop.
The TEAM from The Elm Action Map will also have a stall at the Assynt Games 8th August to enhance community engagement, provide information on DED identification and collect ideas and information for the StoryMap. On 9th August we will attend the launch of Mandy Haggith’s wonderful new book on elm.
