Event description

Description

Attention, children and young people!

We want to know what it would happen if you were in charge. What would a town run by children and young people be like?

To find out, we’re inviting young people to think about where they live: how do you feel about Rotherham, what in the town is important to you, and what would you like to happen here in the future? And what would Rotherham look like if you could reimagine it – transforming it to be whatever you want?

During these interactive workshops, you’ll rethink everything about Rotherham: from its name to the way it’s run, from what buildings it has to the laws that govern it. All of this will go into your own manifesto for a totally reimagined Rotherham!

You’ll also come up with the design for the Embassy for Reimagining Rotherham (or ‘ERR’, for short). What is its brand, what is its logo, and what interactive activities would there be in the embassy to explain your ideas to local people – and to find out what they think, too? Then, with help from award-winning designers Hydra Creative, this spectacular building will materialise in the town centre for two weeks in August. From this embassy you’ll poll the people of Rotherham about your policies, before presenting your brand new manifesto to real-life change makers.

We want to find out about everything that is important to you – and to show other people why those issues matter!

To be part of the Embassy For Reimagining Rotherham (ERR), you MUST attend The Big Introduction! workshop. You can sign up for that here.

The Embassy For Reimagining Rotheram workshops run on:

  • Week One – brain storming and ideas generating: 1.30pm - 4.00pm on Wednesday 9 August and Thursday 10 August
  • Week Two – developing and designing: 10.00am - 12.30pm on Tuesday 15 August, Wednesday 16 August, Thursday 17 August
  • Week Three – polling and presenting: 10.00am - 12.30pm on Monday 21 August, Tuesday 22 August, Thursday 24 August

All the workshops are FREE. They are also all DIFFERENT, so you can sign up for as many as you like.

The Embassy For Rethinking Rotherham workshops are suitable for children and young people aged 7 – 16. During each session, participants will work in a group alongside other children and young people around their age (e.g. in groups of children aged 7 – 10; 11 – 13; 14 – 16).

If the attendee is 14 or under, a parent/guardian/carer is required to drop your child off at, and collect them from, any workshop they attend. A consent form must also be completed at the first session they attend.
