Course overview:
Storytelling isn’t just for writers or performers - it’s one of the most powerful tools we have at work. Whether you’re sharing an idea, pitching a project, or bringing people along with a vision, the ability to tell a compelling story can make your message land in a way that sticks.
In this short and punchy session, we’ll explore what makes a great story work. You’ll learn how to structure a story so it actually goes somewhere, how to bring it to life with vivid details and emotion, and how to tell it in a way that feels natural and engaging.
This will be part learning workshop, part improv playground - designed to get you practising fast, experimenting safely, and walking away with stories you’re proud to tell.
Here’s what the 3.5-hour session will cover:
Welcome & warm-up We’ll ease into the session, get connected, and warm up our creative muscles with a few playful exercises to get in the storytelling headspace.
The bones of a great story We’ll break down the core structure that sits behind most compelling stories - what’s happening, who it’s happening to, and why it matters. This is the stuff that helps stories flow and make sense.
Bringing it to life Now that we’ve got the skeleton, it’s time to add flesh. You’ll learn how to use details, emotion, and rhythm to make your story vivid, relatable, and memorable.
Practice makes confident You’ll get the chance to try out different stories in small groups, with feedback and support. We’ll use a few improv techniques to help you loosen up, stay in the moment, and have fun while you practice.
Make it real We’ll finish by helping you connect the dots to your real-world context - what kinds of stories do you need to tell? Where and how can you use this in your role?
Wrap-up & takeaways We’ll close the session with key insights, your next storytelling steps, and maybe even one last story to send you on your way.
