The English Wine Project with Kieron Atkinson
Thu 27 April 2017, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
Presentation and Q&A with Kieron Atkinson, founder of The English Wine Project
Friar Gate Studios, Derby, Thursday 27 April , 6.00pm. FREE event
Kieron Atkinson, founder of Derby-based wine and beer start-ups The English Wine Project and Complete Bottling, will be joining us at Friar Gate Studios to talk about the highs and lows of starting and building two thriving local businesses.
Kieron left the British Army in 2010 after nine years’ active service to start a new and exciting career in English wine. After completing the only UK wine production course at Plumpton College in Sussex, he went on to become Technical Advisor for the UK branch of the Rothschilds before taking over the historic vineyard at Renishaw Hall in North Derbyshire.
Since then, The English Wine Project has enjoyed fantastic levels of growth with Kieron planting an extra third on to the existing vineyard at Renishaw in 2012, and taking on the lease of Welcombe Hills vineyard near Stratford upon Avon for two years between 2013 and 2015, during which he produced delicious wine from grapes grown there in the Avon Valley.
In summer 2015, Kieron also opened his newest venture, Complete Bottling, providing a new bottling service to the hundreds of beer and cider producers in and around Derbyshire.
At this special event, Kieron will be sharing his experiences – both good and bad – of creating a start-up business in the region. He will also be on hand to answer any questions about starting-up and running two successful businesses.
