Description

The Exe Hammer Challenge is an annual stand up paddleboard race on the stunning Exe Estuary. Sponsored by Exeter City Futures and organised by local watersports centre Edge Watersports the race now in its 5th edition is known as one of the best of its type in the uk.

This year the race starts at the historic port of Topsham near Exeter with a start time of 2.30pm. With the aid of the outgoing tide the paddlers set forth towards Exmouth past the the Turf Locks Inn. As they approach Exmouth the pace of the outgoing tide increases sweeping the paddlers along the seafront before the finish next to Exmouth Lifeboat Station.

The race is around 12km in length and because of the outgoing tide is acheivable by all paddlers. The fastest racers will finish the course in about 1 hour with the rest of the fleet normally taking between 1-2 hours. Paddlers are split into 4 classes: 14ft Hard, 12'6" Hard, 12'6" Inflatable, less than 12ft Round Nose. Prizes are awarded for the fastest mens and female racers.

Participants can drop off equipment at Topsham Quay from 10.00 on the day of the race. It is recomended that participants then park their cars on Exmouth seafront and Catch one of the minibuses doing free shuttle runs from Foxholes car Park to Topsham for the start. The shuttle bus runs start at 11.00.

Registration starts at Topsham quay from 10.00 till 13.00 on the race day and race briefing is at 13.30

Entry fee includes post race drinks and food.
