Ben Pester discusses his assured and subversive debut, The Expansion Project, with Wivenhoe author Sam Fisher.

Plans for the expansion of the Capmeadow Business Park are in full swing – its mission is to become the greatest business park in the region. Tom Crowley, a mid-level employee, loses his daughter at ‘bring your daughter to work day’. Eventually, after no sign of her is found, it transpires she was never there. Years pass, and Tom remains at the company, convinced he is in the presence of his now adult daughter. But has he judged it correctly? And can anything go back to the way it was? Subversively humorous and cuttingly intelligent, The Expansion Project announces the arrival of a major new voice in literary fiction.

Ben Pester is the author of the short story collection Am I in the Right Place? He lives in London. The Expansion Project is his first novel.

Samuel Fisher is a writer, bookseller and publisher. His debut novel, The Chameleon, was recipient of a Betty Trask Award. His second novel, Wivenhoe, was published by Corsair in 2022. His latest novel is Migraine. His is co-owner of Burley Fisher Books and a director of Peninsula Press.

The event will be followed by an audience Q&A and a book signing.
