Our practitioner education roadshow is back and throughout 2019 we are focusing on the exposome; what it is, why it’s relevant, how it relates to health and what you can do about it.
Once again, nutrition practitioner and doctoral researcher in clinical neuroscience Miguel Toribio-Mateas will be translating complex science into simple but powerful clinical interventions.
An introduction to the exposome
The exposome can be defined as the sum of all exposures contributing to your health throughout your lifetime – beginning before birth and including insults from both environmental and occupational sources as you progress through life. Understanding how exposures from the environment around you, the foods you consume, and the lifestyle you lead interact with your own unique genetic make-up, physiology and biochemistry is what the exposome is all about.
Helping you unravel the science
During this seminar Miguel will explain how increasing your awareness of the exposome can help you as a practitioner to take a holistic look at how environmental exposures contribute to both health and disease. More specifically he will discuss the impact of the following factors:
• Nutrition
• Sources of toxicity
• Sources of psychological stress and anxiety
• Movement and physical activity
• Environment enrichment; sources of brain stimulation, or lack thereof
• Interaction with the microbiome
Practical supplemental solutions
Nutrition practitioner Helen Drake, with a background in biological science and research, will talk you through the specific nutrients which can be used to support our body systems in ameliorating the effects of the exposome. Helen will focus on practical supplemental solutions and supporting research for the use of these nutraceuticals, as well as introducing the research and development behind our new Cytoprotect range.
