Description

The Extraordinary Story of Human Beings, Energy and Happiness... an inspirational multimedia presentation by Paul Allen from the Centre of Alternative Technology with a specially composed soundtrack performed live by pianist Lola Perrin.

"If we are unable to imagine a positive future we won't create it" Paul Allen

From the big bang to big oil, human history is deeply marked by revolutions in energy production and use. Paul Allen, from the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, explains how fossil fuels, stores of ancient sunlight from 400 million years ago, transformed our civilisation. Now, we need to transform it again.

Can we reshape our society's relationship with energy in time to curb global warming?

Co-ordinator of CAT’s flagship report ’Zero Carbon Britain: Making it Happen’, Paul challenges us to tell a new story about our relationship with energy and happiness. He shows how rethinking the past can give us the confidence to envision a climate positive future.

This arresting multimedia presentation of our energy story, with a specially composed score by pianist and composer Lola Perrin, will introduce a new organisation - Zero West. This is a collaborative project bringing together renewables developers, community groups, the four West of England local authorities, financers, lawyers, IT specialists, PR companies, and other interested parties.

We’ve set up Zero West because we think that to get to the scale the West of England region needs to go zero carbon we have to work faster, in a more joined-up way, and do low-carbon projects at a much larger scale than at present.

We’re mid-way through formalising our new venture, but in the meantime, we hope you enjoy this performance. The following day sees our first ever conference. Here’s your chance to get involved at the outset!
