Since 2022, The Veterans Charity has hosted The Falklands Challenge in honour of those who served during The Falklands War between 2 April and 14 June 1982.

255 British service personnel and 3 Falklands Islanders lost their lives during the conflict and around 750 were wounded.

The challenge comprises a 10-mile Yomp, paying tribute to the incredible feat achieved during the war when troops covered 56 miles on foot, carrying a huge weight of kit and ammunition, before entering a fierce battle.

There is a live event which takes place on the beautiful South West Coast Path from Instow Beach to RMB Chivenor in North Devon. There is also a virtual version for those unable to make it down to Devon; choose your own 10-mile route and Yomp in honour of those who liberated the islands over 40 years ago.

Entry costs £20 per person and includes a fabulous bespoke medal for all participants. All proceeds from The Falklands Challenge help The Veterans Charity to continue delivering vital and urgent support to Veterans who find themselves battling dire hardship and the distress it causes.

At the finish of the live event, the challengers and support team gather together at RMB Chivenor's fabulous memorial garden for a poignant wreath-laying and service of remembrance.

Frequently asked questions

What are the parking arrangements at the start?

There are paid car parks in Instow; one on Marine Parade and one at Sandhills Car Park which is located at the far end of the beach. We strongly advise using public transport to travel to the start and from the finish. Stagecoach operates the number 21 service which runs regularly and very close by

Can I bring a dog to the event?

Dogs are permitted however, they must be kept on a short lead at all times. Dog walkers will be asked to start at the back of the group to minimise trip hazards for other participants. All dog fouling must be cleared up and placed into the waste bins which are situated along the route.

Can I raise funds for The Veterans Charity as part of my participation in The Falklands Challenge?

Whilst fundraising is not compulsory, it is of course very much encouraged as the funds raised make a big impact on our ability to continue delivering vital and urgent support to Veterans. Fundraising pages can be created for The Falklands Challenge once you have registered.

Is the route clearly marked?

Yes. In addition to our marshalls who will be at key points on the route, there will also be clear signage to ensure you remain on the correct route. It is a straight forward route which follows the 'Tarka Trail' (South West Coast Path). There is a beach section for the first 200 metres.
