About this event
Our world is full of striking patterns, bold colours and unusual shapes - and in difficult times, I find comfort in their confidence and regularity. They make me feel calm.During lockdown, I created a photographic series called Peaceful Patterns, where I captured the many soothing shapes, patterns and colours that I passed on my walks. When we take the time to stop and deconstruct what we see around us, whether it be nature or architecture, so much of it is a combination of simple forms.
In this workshop, I will invite you to search with me. We’ll begin by stepping outside looking for the quiet city details - up high as well as under our feet. Using the city’s shapes, patterns and colours as inspiration, we’ll make a series of postcards reflecting the overlooked corners of Greenwich. I hope you will come away with a soothed mind and a new appreciation for our spectacular city.
The Facilitator
Coco Lom is an artist and designer from Hackney specialising in abstract pattern. Her style mixes a bold bright colour palette with black and white pattern, which has been translated into large scale mural work around her home city of London. She’s on a mission to open people’s eyes to all the patterns, shapes and colours that lie in the world around us and help people celebrate the quiet details we might not normally notice.
She was recently commissioned by Pink Lady Apples to transform central London’s first art basketball court, as well as having her first solo show, sponsored by Estrella Damm, at The Book Club in Shoreditch. Her work has been featured by Sky Sports, Adobe, Creative Boom, Design Week and more. Clients include Covent Garden, Holland & Barrett, and Shoreditch Studios.

About us
The Loss Project is programming a series of workshops, talks and events in July/August 2022 as part of an exciting collaboration with The Fandangoe Kid. Last year, The Fandangoe Whip, a converted ice cream van, took to the streets to talk to people about stigmatised emotions including grief and loss, in light of the pandemic with ice cream!
This year the Whip is back, in a new guise and a brand new partnership with CAUKIN studio and the Skip gallery. We hope to smash the taboos around mental health and grief/loss by bringing ice cream back to the Greenwich Design Fest and Canary Wharf’s summer festival alongside a programme of therapeutic workshops, talks and events to support people and open up the conversation about mental health.
Location
The Skip will be outside the Now Gallery in Greenwich- you won't be able to miss us!
