Event description

Description

An exploration of our relationship with the Feminine in Hebrew sacred texts, stories and history

This will be a special opportunity to remember the power of spoken word, chant, and silence as we celebrate Shabbat (Sabbath), and discover the Feminine Divine in the ancient texts that are the common ancestral root of Christian and Jewish theologies.

Come for just the Friday evening, or the Saturday daytime - or both.

Kohenet Rachel works to create meaningful connections that extend beyond personal and cultural differences. She facilitates workshops and devotion in a wide variety of Jewish and multi-faith settings from Burning Man to Greenbelt Festival. She is co-creator of Yelala , and is the Spiritual Educator for Sadeh, the UK’s only Jewish farm and environmental community, based in Kent.

In our Saturday Circle, we have a unique opportunity to learn how to identify feminine archetypes that lie in sacred texts, exploring them through experiential practice, silent meditation and devotional chant, sacred text study, and discussion.

We invite you to join us on Friday evening for a Tisch of Tales, in which Rachel will share some of her favourite spoken word, story, and song. Poetic Jewish liturgy often refers to the Sabbath herself as a Bride or a Queen. A Tisch is an East-European Jewish custom of welcoming the Sabbath Bride with joy.

Rachel has been acclaimed as the “Queen of the New Wave of storytellers” (BBC Radio 3). She has written and performed for Billy Bragg, BBC Radio 3, the London Symphony Orchestra, and is a winner of the UK Young Storyteller of the Year. Her work draws on a mix of immigrant oral tradition, English folk music, and concrete jungle.
