About this event
The Margaret Thatcher Centre is delighted to welcome the Chairman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee, Tom Tugendhat MBE VR MP, to deliver the Fifth Ronald Reagan Lecture at the East India Club on the evening of Monday, 28 March 2022.
Elected to Parliament in 2015 for Tonbridge & Malling, and having served in Iraq & Afghanistan, Tom rose to prominence in his role as Chairman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee for his excoriating criticism of US President Joe Biden and the manner of America's withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQjUTP0Wbyk). Recently Tom has announced that, when a ballot occurs for the leadership of the Conservative Party, he will put his name forward as a candidate.
The evening will begin with a drinks reception at 7pm followed by a keynote lecture to be given at 7.30pm and then Q&A.
The reception will be in the East India Room, while the lecture will take place in the splendour of the Smoking Room of the East India Room, in which very room Margaret & Denis Thatcher celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
