A public lecture by June Purvis, Emeritus Professor of Women’s & Gender History, University of Portsmouth

In this illustrated public lecture about suffragette leader Christabel Pankhurst, we commemorate the 1918 Representation Of The People Act which gave the vote to certain categories of women over the age of 30. Professor June Purvis is an acknowledged authority on the women’s suffrage movement. She is the Founding and Managing Editor of the journal Women’s History Review, Chair of the Women’s History Network, and Secretary and Treasurer of the International Federation for Research in Women’s History. Her many publications include Emmeline Pankhurst: a biography (Routledge, 2002) and Christabel Pankhurst: a biography published on 8 January 2018.
