The finest road in the world

James Miller takes us on a wild journey along some of the Highlands and Islands' most infamous transport routes. Trains and stagecoaches trapped in snow, ferocious storms driving ships off course, traffic pile-ups on so-called 'killer' highways – such stories abound through recorded history. Miller explores these dramatic and sometimes humorous experiences of Highland transport, and reveals how changing modes of transport affected the lives of those in the remotest parts of the country.
