Description

The Centenary Drumhead Service at The Spitfire Ground on Sunday 23 September 2018 - the major commemorative event for Kent, hosted by The Queen’s Representative in Kent, The Lord Lieutenant (Viscount De L’Isle MBE).

The Dean of Canterbury, The Very Reverend Robert Willis, will lead the Service. The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment will parade with its band.

The following information is important and is given to assist you. The gates to the event will open at 12.30pm and access to the site is via the Nackington Road entrance. You will have the opportunity to visit various
recruiting stands together with our chosen military charity, Combat Stress.


There will also be an opportunity to attend one of two Army Presentation team briefings being organised by 11 Brigade. There will be Pre-Service Performances from the Shorncliffe and Brompton Military Wives Choirs. Light
refreshments will be available to purchase on site. Please note that no alcohol will be sold and under no circumstances should alcohol be brought on to the site. The Service will commence at 3.00pm, preceded by a Parade. Please be seated by 2.45pm. There will be a retiring collection for Combat Stress.


Travel:
No parking is available at the Cricket Ground. Canterbury City Council has kindly organised for the Park and Ride Service from New Dover Road to drop off and collect from the Cricket Ground. This will be the most suitable method of getting to and from the Ground. Please refer to www.canterbury.gov.uk/parking for details of how to get to the New Dover Road Park and Ride and any other public transport options and car parks.


Parking for early arrivals (with limited capacity) will be available at Simon Langton School for Girls and there will be a charge of £5.00 per car to go to the School.

Security and Tickets: Please print your ticket/s and bring them with you on the day, along with photographic ID, as this event is strictly admission by tickets only. Please note that bag searches will be undertaken on arrival.


Dress Code:
For general public: informal
For ex-service people: medals may be worn.
For Serving Personnel: Uniform with medals (No. 2 Dress); no swords.
For civic representatives: Chains and Badges of Office are appropriate.

This is an outside event. Please bring wet weather clothing if necessary.


This event may be filmed and/or photographed. Attendance at this event affirms your consent to be used as a member of the event audience.
