Workshop Aims

To give all business owners or people managers an overview of what good HR Support should look like in their business.

Many business owners or people managers don’t really know or understand what a good HR professional could help them with in their business, and think that we are just there to help them when they have a people issue. Of course, they can help you to deal with any people issues you have and ensure that you meet employment legislation, and minimise the risk of litigation by dealing with the matter in the right way for you, but there is much more to the profession than that!

  • In this work shop you will learn five things about HR that perhaps didn’t know before!

  • You will learn some fundamental principles of what good HR support should look like in your business, which will help you to choose the right HR partner to work with

  • You will learn some leading edge best practices in people management that you may want to adopt or implement in your own business

Emma Browning

My name is Emma Browning, and I’m an experienced senior HR specialist, with a proven track record in delivering change management programmes, re-organisations, employee development and managing complex employee relations issues. I like to work in partnership with businesses to help them develop their people processes so that the business, and the people within the business, deliver the best results possible.

My career has spanned 30 years with the last 16 years being spent in HR. Before moving into HR, I had a successful career working for the world’s largest recruitment company and managed their contract to supply call centre staff to a major telecoms company. The high staff turnover and low employee engagement I witnessed there was a powerful insight into the impact that employees could have on business performance.

I am commercially astute with an excellent appreciation for the vital role that HR plays in the overall success of a business. I have a  ”can do” attitude and am good at finding a solution to deliver tasks or projects where others have failed. I am good at analysing a situation and determining what the problems or issues may be, before they happen. I try to inject a sense of humour into my work and am fun to work with, despite the difficult nature of some of the issues I deal with, and most of all I am very pragmatic in my approach.
