The Football Industry Uncovered: How to Make a Career in Sports

You are invited to a panel event focusing on how to break into the sports industry. Hear personal stories from a number of individuals who work across various sports including football. The panellists are individuals working in the sector and will share their experiences and career journeys.
Hugo Scheckter is the Player/Team Liaison Officer Southampton FC and acts as the primary contact for the club’s first team players and coaching staff. With a degree in Business Administration & Sports Management, alongside his experience working with Southampton and Indy Eleven, Hugo has developed a comprehensive understanding and respect for the dedication, flexibility and work ethic needed to succeed within the sports industry; driven by his want for continual improvement and progress, and his passion for football.
Ehsen Shah is an integral part of digital and commercial agency the Integrity Club. Ehsen began his career working at a global online agency within the marketing department assigned to manage large brand accounts such as Nike, Adidas, G-Star and Pandora on international commercial activation. Now a Director at The Integrity Club, Ehsen works on developing footballer’s profiles in order to provide strategic commercial partnership opportunities.
Leon Anderson is a football executive with Wasserman Media Group (WMG). Founded in 2002 with roots in sports and entertainment, WMG are an agency not just of advisors, but creators, developers, influencers and innovators working across sectors. Prior to Wasserman, Leon began his career with Reading Football Club before going on to work with Sheffield Wednesday and Base Soccer Agency as a Football Consultant.
Daniel Geey is a Partner and sports lawyer at Sheridans. Daniel’s practice focuses principally on helping clients in the sports sector, including rights holders, leagues, governing bodies, associations, clubs, agencies, athletes, sports technology and esports companies, broadcasters and financial institutions. He advises clients on regulatory matters, dispute resolution, as well as competition law, commercial and broadcasting issues in a range of sports including football, tennis, rugby, cricket, boxing, basketball, athletics and gymnastics.
The panel session will involve each panellist spending around 10-15 mins explaining their individual journey into the football industry and some insight into what they currently do. There will then be Q&A session for around 30 mins. You will also hear from Birkbeck Careers & Employability and Birkbeck Talent on what they do and how they can help you identify opportunities within the sector for 15 minutes.
