Description

Sat 20th July, 1pm / Pay What You Feel

And this our life exempt from public haunt
Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,
Sermons in stones and good in every thing.
I would not change it."
Duke Senior, As You Like It, Act 2 Scene i

Join us for the launch of the latest green adventure of cycling Shakespeare company The HandleBards, which aims to build a global forest connected by stories, culture and poetry. With performances from Clive Wilmer (acclaimed poet and Master of the Guild of Saint George), Tom Dixon (Artistic Director of The HandleBards), Lydia Allison (poet and facilitator), as well as a tree planting workshop with the Heeley Development Trust, come along to learn more and sow the seeds of the first trees in The Arden Project.

The HandleBards
The HandleBards are a cycling theatre company who carry all of their set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes to perform charmingly chaotic Shakespeare plays at outdoor venues across the globe. Since their first tour in 2013 the company have cycled over 10,000 miles, and performed in over 15 countries. In 2016 they received an award from Creative Carbon Scotland for Consistency in Sustainable Practice and in 2017 they were shortlisted for The Stage’s Sustainability Award.

The cafe/bar and the People’s Palace of Possibility installation will be open half an hour before each event. A Future Fantastic Festival is presented by The Bare Project in collaboration with Ruskin in Sheffield, Centre for Understanding Sustainable Prosperity, Theatre Deli and The Guild of St George.
