This one-day training course is specifically for BSc (Hons) Nursing students and is delivered by Dr Chantal Lockey of the Foundation for Infant Loss. Participants will receive a certificate at the end of the course.
Important Information - If you are allocated to attend placement a study day will NOT be given. Once your place is booked if you are no longer able to attend contact Jaye Ryan jaye.ryan@bcu.ac.uk to allow another student to attend, as places are limited.
The Foundation will cover topics such as:
- What is an infant loss? You cannot pretend it won't happen.
- A personal account of losing a baby to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and a personal account of losing a baby to Still Birth.
- Video: “The Deafening Silence” - Identifying good and poor practice.
- The Flexmort Cuddle Cot - A demonstration.
- Bereavement Suites.
- Breaking bad news, including unexpected loss in A and E.
- The likely physical and emotional reactions to loss including the grief differences between men and women.
- Making Memories for the family.
- Spending time with their baby.
- Preparation for how the baby may physically look.
- How to care for the baby.
- Caring for yourself when assisting with infant loss.
- The issue of Post mortem and the Coroner - Registering a baby after loss.
- The option of taking baby home.
- SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
- Remembering baby and healing after loss.
- What next? Counselling? Trying again: The Emotional rollercoaster that is subsequent pregnancies after loss.
