Description

Belting is a controversial word that means different things to different people in vocal community. This workshop will explore various options for healthy high-intensity in Rock, Pop and Musical Theatre drawing on Dane Chalfin's research into the larygopharygneal gestures of Primal Sound.

Workshop Content:

  • What do we mean by "Belting?"
  • Belting physiology
  • Belt vs. "Mix"
  • Range and vowel limitations
  • Music and lyric interpretation for belters
  • Interactive masterclass

This workshop will be useful for singers, singing teachers and vocal coaches, and speech therapists working with singers. Space is strictly limited to 25 delegates (15 observes and 10 performers).

The second half of the day will be an interactive masterclass where participants will perform and receive coaching from Dane in front of the group. Please select the appropriate ticket type if you would like to perform. Performer tickets limited to 10 participants. Performers should prepare one half of a song that involves belting and bring appropriate backing tracks in suitable keys.

A cold buffet lunch will be provided including vegetarian and gluten free options. Water, tea and coffee will also be provided. If you have any other food allergies please contact us. Alternatively, feel free to bring your own cold lunch/snacks.
