The Freud Bar: Economy, Capitalism and Soul
Mon 7 December 2015, 19:30 – 21:45 GMT
British Psychoanalytic Association presents The Freud Bar. At this event Nir Wegrzyn will discuss Economy, Capitalism and Soul. This Christmas lecture will be accompanied by some wine and mince pies.
Discussant: Joseph Heavey
Chair: David Morgan
This talk explores the notion of ‘the Economy’ and ‘Capitalism’ being the drivers of our moral codes, and how they’ve become the new ‘Gods’ of our modernculture. Nir explores the surprising birth of capitalism as a religious-motivated model, through to how ‘the Economy’ became a tool for social governments’agenda in an attempt to control social structures. It builds from a controversial lecture given at the V&A post the London Riots debating morals, needs and wants.
