Event description

Description

Dr Michael McMillan (University of the Arts London) talks about ‘The Front Room’. Traditionally based on the Victorian parlour that was the ‘special’ room in the domestic interior where hospitality towards guests takes place, and its material culture in the African-Caribbean household speaks to migrant aesthetics and working class respectability in the home.

Dr McMillan is Associate Lecturer in Cultural & Historical Studies at the University of the Arts London.

Doors open at 5.30pm for refreshments.

Part of our Windrush Years programme accompanying the Windrush Years – Next Generations exhibition.
