Event description
This "International Day of Disabled People*" join us for a one day FREE seminar for employers on how to recruit and retain talent.

About this Event

This event is for employers of small, medium and large businesses. It will be full of practical tips and ideas about how to access and retain disabled people, who have so much potential to contribute. Being an inclusive employer makes sense for your business. Through inclusive recruitment practices you will be able to recruit talented individuals you are currently missing out on. By having an inclusive approach you will improve staff retention and maximise efficiency by allowing staff to do what they do best. Having a diverse workforce will improve creativity and innovation as well as your bottom line. (See the research [link].)

This International Day of Disabled People* join us for a one day FREE seminar for employers. We at Inclusion Scotland, have over 5 years experience providing practical support and guidance to a wide range of employers across all sectors on the recruitment of disabled people through our intern programme, We can Work.

  • Why bother? Learn how employing disabled people brings wider organisational benefit and contributes to a more inclusive culture.
  • Learn practical "how tos" on making your recruitment practices accessible.
  • Hear from other employers about their experience of recruiting and working with disabled colleagues. What have they learnt?
  • Hear from our disabled interns about their employment journeys.
  • Remove the fear of getting it wrong and ask whatever questions you have in a safe space.
  • Learn how being inclusive benefits everyone.

Speakers include:

  • Suzanne Burns, HR & Communications Director, Scottish Television

Agenda to come.

*The day is officially called the "International Day of Peoples with Disabilities". We use the term disabled people instead of people with disabilities because we use the Social Model of Disability. The Social Model says that disability is caused by the barriers which arise because society fails to take into account people's impairments. Read more about the social model here.
