About this event

Echo is thrilled to announce The Future is Freelance Summer Social at the White Post Lane on Wednesday 13th July, 6 - 9pm.

Network = Networth!

Almost one-third of the creative industry workforce is self-employed—more than in any other industry in the UK - and this number is growing.

How do the local creatives in East London navigate through freelance challenges, create financial resilience and build sustainable futures?

Echo and the HWFI Creative Enterprise Zone are thrilled to invite you to join Wick Freelancers Summer Social, showcase and panel discussion at the White Post Lane in Hackney Wick!

We’re bringing together a panel of local creative freelancers for a discussion on the highs and lows of freelance life, and how freelancers can build resilience both individually and collectively.

Stick around for a drink, chat and networking afterwards to exchange ideas, skills and knowledge.

  • Where: White Post Lane
  • When: 13th July 2022
  • Time: Doors open at 6pm, panel discussion from 6.30 - 7.30pm

Meet the panel speakers:

⚡️ Sarah Purisa Maguire is founder of KITÁ , a coaching practice dedicated to uplifting and empowering the creative workforce.

⚡️ Travis Crowther is a freelance branding designer and founder The Modern Designer.

⚡️ Shana Gujral is a VC backed entrepreneur, as well as a Radio Presenter and DJ on BBC Asian Network. shanagujral.com

⚡️ Sylvia Morgado is an artist with a Socially Engaged Practice based in East London and currently on a PhD with the research 'Diversity & Inclusion in UK Arts Institutions.' sylviamorgado.com

Meet the host:

⚡️ Sara Kärpänen is an artist, author and the founder of Women of the Wick - an independent feminist media, and the host of Girl Get A Real Job podcast dedicated to tackling the gender pay gap in the creative & freelance industry

The event is hosted by Echo, a community of people and businesses who help each other by sharing time and skills.

We’ll also be showcasing participants from Echo’s Wick Freelancers programme - a free peer-to-peer business support programme for creative freelancers based in and around Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

The programme is funded by the Mayor of London as part of the HWFI Creative Enterprise Zone.
