Constructing the Idea : a Low-Carbon Future

RIBA President Elect Simon Allford talks about the Future of Architecture and its role in tackling climate change, health and inequality. With a vision to transform RIBA into an institute of ideas, Simon seeks to create a more diverse and capable profession with RIBA becoming a practice friend and a global portal where ideas become knowledge.

Simon Allford is a founding director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, a Stirling Prize-winning architecture practice established in 1989. Simon recently stepped down from his long-standing role as Chair of the Architecture Foundation and has previously served as Honorary Treasurer and Secretary of the Architectural Association (AA), as a trustee of the AA Foundation, and as Vice President of the RIBA Education Committee.

Simon has also been a visiting professor at The Bartlett School of Architecture and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design where he has run two studios. He engages in the broader architectural discussion as a frequent writer, critic, teacher, competition juror, lecturer, examiner, advisor and commentator.

Elena Marco

Elena Marco is Head of Department for Architecture and the Built Environment at UWE Bristol, one of the leading architecture schools in the country.

Before joining UWE in 2005, Elena built a strong profile in sustainable design at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. Now in academia, she continues to develop her research interests, which focus on the crossover between health, sustainability and architecture.

Elena is a Trustee of The Architecture Centre.
