Description

The future of compostable plastics in packaging

This event explores the opportunity for using compostable packaging as UK retailers, producers and hospitality industry transition to a low-carbon economy.

The one-day conference in Regents Park, Central London, will bring together leading experts in this field. The event will include:

  • presentation of Plastics in the Bioeconomy, a new report by Ricardo Energy & Environment for the Biomass Biorefinery Network (BBNet) examining the scope for compostable packaging

  • analysis of the recent report made by the University of Plymouth on biodegradation of certain materials in the open and marine environments

  • retailer perspectives on the challenges, barriers and opportunities of compostable packaging

  • briefing on the infrastructure for treatment and recovery of compostable packaging

  • discussion examining the link between compostable packaging, food waste and soil quality in the UK

  • the roadmap so compostables and plastic packaging do not contaminate one another, including collection and labeling

  • review of the current stage in the consultation process relative to the reforms outlined by the Resource and Waste Strategy

Speakers will include representatives from Government, the waste management industry, retailers, soil, composting and AD industries, and the report authors and speakers from the BBIA.

The event is free of charge with limited places and the event is aimed specifically towards those who joined the Food Waste Alliance, is the retail industry, food packaging, food waste collection and treatment, waste managers, policymakers.

Refreshments will be served during the course of the meeting.
