Capabilities and Potential of Neuromorphic, Quantum and High Performance Computing

 

What does the future of computing look like? What do Neuromorphic computing, Quantum computing and High Performance (Conventional) Computing each have to offer? How are decisions made on funding and investment in emerging computing technologies?

 

The Knowledge Transfer Network and UCL are delighted to invite you to attend an event hosted by the Institute of Physics which will explore hardware and potential applications emerging novel computing technologies in the UK. Confirmed speakers include Prof Steve Furber from Manchester University and Prof Tony Kenyon from UCL.

 

The event is on Friday 22nd November, registration will open at 10:00 with the event running from 10:30 until 15:30. This will include representatives from academia, industry and the policy makers to hear about the research and development in new types of hardware and their applications. Leading experts will discuss the technologies, including Professor Tony Kenyon (UCL) and Professor Steve Furber (University of Manchester) who will introduce neuromorphic computing, a new technology inspired by biology by mimicking the neural systems found in the human brain. Other leading presenters will cover Quantum Computing and High Performance (conventional) Computing. Panel sessions will encourage discussion on the UK’s future computing landscape. 

 

These technologies are fundamentally different, with unique applications and potential. During the second part of the event, representatives from Innovate UK, Government and industry will provide an overview of the current investment landscape and priorities for the UK, to stimulate a discussion amongst attendees on what is needed from computing hardware and what each of these technologies could offer.
