Description

McLean Ross, recruitment leaders within the smart cities industry are pleased to present a networking breakfast event around The Future of DSR.

The number of aggregators active in the market will reduce significantly in the next 18 months, according to reports from the Energyst, but where does this leave the DSR market? Energy Suppliers, as well as distribution networks, are now starting to go after the same customers, will this increase competition between aggregators? Will we see more disruption in the market from challenging start-ups?

Join us for this complimentary breakfast event in London to discuss the latest topics around The Future of DSR. The event will bring together thought leaders across the Energy industry to present engaging discussions around their predictions for the future market. You will also be given a chance to network and have open discussion with fellow professionals in the market.

The morning will open with some light networking along with complimentary food and drinks so get there early! We will then welcome our speakers to discuss the latest in DSR followed by Q&A’s around the topics they have discussed. The breakfast will finish with a chance to do some further networking.

Graham Oakes, Upside Energy

Dr Graham Oakes is a systems engineer with over 30 years experience working for firms such as Cisco, Sony, Skype and Vodafone. He founded Upside Energy in 2014 to address problems of cost, reliability and CO2 emissions associated with the energy system. Upside has since won many awards, most recently winning the Shell Springboard prize for low carbon innovation in the UK in April 2017. It has also raised significant sums of grant and equity funding to build its cloud service for coordinating distributed energy resources. This service went into commercial operation in April 2017. Graham holds a PhD from Imperial College, London, and is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the British Computer Society.

David Hill, Open Energi

David Hill is an expert on electricity markets and demand flexibility. He is responsible for defining and delivering Open Energi’s strategy to radically reduce the cost of delivering and consuming power. This includes working with customers and strategic partners to grow our network of distributed energy assets, develop new products and realise new market opportunities. David joined Open Energi in 2010 after completing an MSc Energy, Trade & Finance at Cass Business School.

Jo-Jo Hubbard, Electron

Jo-Jo is the COO and co-founder of Electron: a London-based start-up in the energy blockchain space. At Electron she is taking a “collaboratively disruptive” approach to designing more efficient, resilient systems for the energy market with a number of key industry stakeholders.

Her energy roots were planted in the early years of the rapid renewable build-out. Then, as solar and wind assets graduated from private equity balance sheets to those of insurance and pension funds, she moved into cleantech and software VC. Most recently, she was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co.

She is also an advocate for energy innovation and women in tech more generally and an energy community curator for Singularity University's new London chapter.

James Johnston, Open Utility

James is the CEO and co-founder of Open Utility, an innovative energy technology company with a mission to democratise energy. In 2015 they partnered with green energy supplier Good Energy to launch Piclo, the UK’s first peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling renewable electricity. Since the company’s inception, James and his co-founders have grown the team to 7 and secured over £1.3M in funding.

Prior to founding Open Utility, James spent 3 years researching building-integrated direct current microgrids at University of Strathclyde. James is also the founder of Solar Sketch, a design company for the solar industry and worked as a building services engineer at international engineering consultancy Arup. James holds a BEng and MSc from University of Strathclyde in Mechanical Engineering.
