Event description
How can Leeds lead the way to a resilient, low carbon future?

About this Event

The UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) will bring representives together from across the United Nations to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

This event takes place as part of the week-long activity hosted by the University of Leeds - Connecting Voices for Climate Action, ahead of the conference held in Glasgow, this November. Find out more and get involved here.

As the UK’s fastest-growing city, businesses across the Leeds City Region will play a critical role in our low carbon future. This event will explore if and how Leeds can lead the way to a resilient, low carbon future and meet ambitious net-zero climate emissions targets by 2050; whilst ensuring climate resilience.

In this session, we’ll share what a low carbon future looks like, how it will be financed, and how businesses of all sizes and sectors are able to build resilience and rise to the challenge.

Taking to the virtual stage, our line-up of experts will consider:

  • How are Leeds businesses already contributing to net-zero? And how can we further enhance this contribution?
  • How will the transition to a net-zero economy and support the levelling up of regional inequalities?
  • How will private capital be mobilised for climate response and rapid green innovation?
  • What opportunities are there for businesses to contribute to the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), and how can they help to ensure its success?
  • How will the Leeds UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI) and the new UK Infrastructure Bank lead the way in supporting a greener global economy?
  • What will the future of innovation look like for climate change, and how can Universities and businesses work together?
