Description
Join in, listen, and discuss the future of investigative journalism in Ireland.
The London-based Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) and the Irish Network of Investigative Journalists (INIJ) are hosting a panel debate on the role and importance of investigative journalism in Ireland.
The panel will be chaired by Senator Susan O'Keeffe and feature investigative journalists from Irish national newspapers and broadcasters including:
- Cormac McQuinn, Investigative Reporter, Irish Independent
- Conor Ryan, Investigative Correspondent, Irish Examiner
- Oonagh Smyth, Reporter, RTE
There will be a €5 charge on the door to attend the debate which is part of a training course in investigative skills over November 9 and 10 hosted at DIT by the CIJ.
Over the weekend there will be training for journalists in finding stories with data journalism using Excel and Google Fusion tables, where to look for financial documents, how to understand company accounts and digital security for journalists.
This year the training is being held with the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) in London in response to requests from Irish journalists and freelancers who have attended its Summer School in London.
However it's the first step towards setting up the INIJ in Ireland, a network where journalists can develop their skills and encourage more in-depth reporting in Irish media.
Come. Join. Discuss. There's lots of work to be done!
