What does the future hold for learning and development?  Join this session to find out.

The way we work and learn is changing all the time. This participative session will enable those attending to identify key steps to prepare themselves and their organizations for the future of learning.  It will cover the latest developments in learning and training as experienced by individuals and organizations of all sizes and sectors. The focus will be on how work-based learning is changing and the impact of the digital learning landscape for organizations, HR managers, line managers training specialists and individuals.

Learning ‘take-away’

The session will enable participants to:

  • Recognize important features in the learning landscape at national and organizational levels and the ‘learning imperative’ for individuals and organizations
  • Understand the potential application of latest trends in technology and work-based learning for individual and organizational performance
  • Identify key steps to re-examine the practice of learning in their organization and to leverage new opportunities for business advantage


Our speaker

Dr. Valerie Anderson, Reader in Human Resource Development at the University of Portsmouth.

A Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Valerie Anderson is a practice-based research leader in HRD. Her academic career was preceded by extensive management and consultancy experience in a range of different public and private sector organisations. Valerie specialises in learning and development in work organisations, particularly managerial coaching and organisational issues associated with strategic human resource development and the evaluation, measurement and assessment of learning. She is author of the leading CIPD book 'Research Methods in HRM' currently in its third edition.  

Valerie has contributed to five CIPD research projects and authored many practitioner-focused on-line practical tools. She is an active member of the steering group for the annual International CIPD Applied Research Conference and Co-Editor of the leading international scholarly journal for Human Resource Development, 'Human Resource Development Quarterly'.

Valerie was a member of the drafting group responsible for the development of the first UK British Standard for HRM. This standard (BS 76000) Human Resource – Valuing People was completed and launched in July 2015.

Professional photography and video production may be taking place at the event, and these images may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD. Please note that by attending the event, you are giving your consent for your image to be used on any CIPD promotional materials.


Is there parking at the venue?

Yes, free on site visitor parking is available.

What refreshments will be on offer?

Light refreshments will be available.

What is the refund policy for paid tickets?

We normally operate a two-week (ie 14 day) cut-off date for ticket cancellations leading to a refund.

How do you use the personal information I provide when registering?

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is a data controller, registered with the Information Commissions Office as required under the Data Protection Act 1998.  The CIPD is committed to protecting your privacy and will not share your personal information with third parties without your permission.  However, when entering in an event that is advertised on the Eventbrite website you will be consenting to your information being passed to the Event Organiser for them to use for the purposes of organising and running the event.  CIPD may also wish to process your personal information in connection with a variety of activities which may include the marketing and promotion of our services and the administration of files and records.  CIPD will only process your data in accordance with current data protection legislation.  The Event Organiser undertakes not to share that information with third parties.

What are the implications for me of witholding consent for the Event Organiser to use my personal data in the way described above?

The decision about whether or not to withold consent is an entirely individual one.  However, if you withold consent, then you will be counted in the overall number of people attending the event, but your name will be excluded from the participant list that is sent to the Event Co-ordinator for registration purposes on the night. 

For this event, without consent to use your personal data (which includes your name and, where applicable, also your vehicle registration number) we will be unable to provide the venue with all the prior information it requires for security purposes.  Access to the venue/event on the night cannot be guaranteed for anyone who has not previously provided this information and given us permission to use it.
