The Future of Textiles and Fashion in Scotland - VIBES event
Event Information
Description
The Scottish textiles and fashion industry has always been at the fore of producing sustainable products from natural fibres and using technological advances to design and manufacture world leading apparel and also solutions for industries as diverse as space (NASA), medi-tech and agriculture from polymer based materials.
This VIBES workshop presents two businesses at opposite ends of this spectrum. Cuantec a bio-economy company currently developing bio-materials for packaging that has the potential to be applied to textiles as an alternative to polyester and another is to be confirmed.
Cuantec is a small bio-economy company in Scotland that have found a bio solution for plastic that can replace traditional oil based polymers causing so many global ocean challenges right now. Their solution is just the start and the possibilities are endless for the future of bio materials from Scotland.
The global textiles and fashion industry is cited as the second biggest polluter in the world due to the reliance on oil for material construction and production. Therefore the role Scotland’s sector can play in designing and manufacturing sustainable textiles, garments to last and innovation is an exciting space that needs leaders and pioneers!
Lynn Wilson will give a global overview of trends in textiles and clothing developments from a circular economy perspective. Lynn will highlight some of the innovative work which is currently being carried out as well as exploring the potential business benefits which could result from a different approach to textiles and fashion.
