Description

Hosted by Smith & Williamson in partnership with The Future Economy Network

With the rapid expansion of renewables and battery storage and a more decentralised model of energy generation and provision, the UK is going through extraordinary and exciting changes to its energy systems. Join us to hear from expert speakers about what this means for climate change targets, energy infrastructure and future energy provision.

Sharing their insights, we are thrilled to be welcoming Independent Energy Researcher, Nikki Jones, as well as Fabia Jederre-Fisher, Senior lecturer in Energy Engineering and Building Services at the University of the West of England. Also joining us will be Dave Tuffery from Western Power Distribution and finally Peter Dennis, Renewable Energy Specialist from Ecotricity. This will be followed by a panel Q&A session with all speakers.

Please arrive at 6.00pm for a drinks reception (roof terrace open with weather permitting) before the 6.30pm start at Smith & Williamson’s stunning fourth floor venue with views over Bristol’s skyline.

Fabia Jederre-Fisher, Senior Lecturer in Energy Engineering and Building Services, within the Faculty of Environment and Technology, UWE Bristol.

With a background in Building Services and Sustainability, Fabia started her career as a consultant in AECOM and then from 2013 to 2017, was leading the Energy agenda at UWE Bristol as Energy Manager. Her role as Energy Manager covered setting the Carbon and Water Management strategies; metering, monitoring and reporting energy use; energy procurement contracts; energy efficient operations; design advice for new buildings and refurbishments; and championing Soft Landings. Due to the significant level of masterplanning works at UWE Bristol's main Frenchay Campus, this opened opportunities for a district heating network to be installed and a major solar photovoltaic project. Fabia also worked with the university's academics in sharing best practice and providing real-life learning opportunities for their students.

David Tuffery, MEng (Hons) MIET, Network Strategy Engineer, Western Power Distribution.

David Tuffery is a Network Strategy Engineer at Western Power Distribution (WPD). After obtaining a MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree from the University of Cardiff in 2014, David joined WPD’s graduate scheme and has progressed through the business covering a number of different functions, including network maintenance, primary network design and major projects. As part of the Network Strategy team he has focused on guiding the long-term strategic development of the network. As part of his role, David has developed advanced power system analysis programs and techniques that enable detailed analysis of long-term scenarios to identify strategic investment requirements on the distribution network. David has also authored a number of WPD’s Distribution System Operability Framework (DSOF) articles, each report identify the technical challenges facing DNOs as they make the transition to become DSOs and support the development of a low carbon future.
