Event Description

Urban green space is under threat. What can we do to safeguard its future?

Public green space is recognised as important to the health, wellbeing and economy of urban areas. These spaces are utilised by over half the UK’s population every month. Historically parks, woodland and smaller more informal spaces have been provided and maintained in a variety of ways but local authorities have often been central. Although the importance of green space is accepted by policy-makers financial pressures mean that in many places the provision and maintenance of these spaces is at risk or at will at least change significantly in future.

This event will bring together academics from Sheffield Hallam University with policy makers and practitioners to explore the future of urban public green space, including the following questions: How will green space be managed in future and by who? And what are the implications of these changes for fair and equal access to urban green space?
