The Future of Work
A CIPD networking event, exclusive to Chartered Fellows
Join us at The Scotch Whisky Experience on Wednesday 2 September 2015, 7 pm to 10 pm for a stimulating evening of strategic debate and exploration around the future of work; showcasing CIPD’s thinking on the future of our profession with a specific focus on how this plays to Scotland’s future as a skilled, high value and high wage economy.
The world of work has changed beyond measure in the 100 years since the CIPD was formed and the pace of change today is unprecedented. The changing nature of work, services, technology, education and what this evolution means for the structure and nature of employment will have significant impact on every organisation and leader. If HR doesn’t provide the answers, they will be found elsewhere.
These are big challenges. If we get them right, we can deliver better work and working lives within stronger, more sustainable organisations. But to do that, as a profession, we have to be better at ‘seeing round corners’, and we have to be better at understanding the questions to be best placed to help with the answers.
About Our Speakers
John McGurk, CIPD’s Head of Scotland will introduce and chair the event linking it to Scotland’s Skilled Future. John will introduce and facilitate three key perspectives of the future:
David D’ Souza is a respected speaker and blogger on progressive HR & business practice, who was recently described by Workplace Insight magazine as "One of the UK’s most influential HR and workplace commentators". David has curated two bestselling HR books as well as being a regular contributor to a number of HR publications. Recently appointed as the CIPD’s Head of London, David will take us down some of the avenues of challenge and opportunity which HR will face as we head into an era of accelerated technology, new business models and big shifts.
Ruth Stuart, former L&D research lead, is now developing the CIPD’s Profession for the Future programme. Ruth will examine how the profession is gearing up for this future, what skills we need to grow and what capabilities we might need to dump as we move towards constant agility and ambidexterity.
Cathy Wilson, former Head of HR and OD at Skyscanner and having recently set up Igloo Spring Ltd., Cathy has lived that future at the cutting edge of tech firm growth. Cathy will give her unique perspective on the OD and learning we need to go forward to this future of relentless disruption and creative destruction.
