The Future of Young People and Politics: 2020 and beyond
The global geopolitical landscape has never been more fraught. Whether it’s Brexit, climate change or President Donal Trump, politicians and commentators are split across political and ideological isles, doing battle in an attempt to win over the other side. Polarising as these debates may be, they are important because the subject matter: The kind of world we want to live in.
However, as these debates do rage on, the young people who will inherit the world in discussion have been largely sidelined. 'Ignored and patronised', our research shows that many are still and are increasingly disenfranchised with the political process.
In keeping with the vision of The Common Sense Network, The Future of Young People and Politics: 2020 and beyond will focus on highlighting the online polarisation felt by many young people navigating their way through the latest news and current affairs of 2020.
It will give the audience a chance to examine the different talking points from across the media, but in a way that is digestible, entertaining, enriching, and most of all, shows the different perspectives, breaking down the echo chambers of thought that are found on these issues online.
This event will be hosted by The Common Sense Network and will give our readers and members a platform to discuss these issues. We will mix an educational, light hearted and comical slant to politics, allowing those who attend not just the opportunity to gain understanding and contribute to these issues, but also to enjoy themselves.
The event will bring different guests together, from comedians, musicians, and academics to produce an authentic and varied take, that combined with a young audience, will not just give the Westminster view, but one of wider society.
