About this event
The Fynches are an Irish folk-rock band that evoke the golden age of
hard-hitting melodicism. They balance early-70s swagger with an elevated
folk sensibility, showcasing a love for rich vocal harmonies, musing
lyricism, and catchy choruses.
The brainchild of Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (lead vocals and guitar) and Oisín
Walsh-Peelo (vocals and keys - to same but two), The Fynches also
comprise Camryn Teehan (drums), Fionn O’Neill (bass), and Julia-Maria
(cello). Vocal melodies and soulful keys meet vibrant guitar lines, soaring
strings, and a powerful rhythm section.
Brothers Ferdia and Oisín were raised in a musical family in County
Wicklow. Nurturing a songwriting bond marked by interlocking harmonies,
the two have amped up their creative experimentation over the past
decade: writing and arranging for the sheer joy of making music. Now
with the live band in place, their songcraft has been able to shift from the
studio to the blaze of the stage. The Fynches are a band that come into
their own under the lights, earning them a reputation as an electrifying live
act.
The Fynches spent much of 2024 hunkered down in the studio together
refining tracks. Now, these musical blueprints have developed into a full
statement album, set for release on 7th October 2025. This self-titled
record, The Fynches, will be accompanied by an extensive, full-band tour
of Ireland with UK and European dates in 2026. With brooding ballads,
raucous crowd pleasers, and even a requiem interlude, the band’s début
is marked by dynamism, playfulness, and musical virtuosity. Uncommonly,
brothers Ferdia and Oisín sometimes exchange lead vocal duties across
songs – at times even verses – balancing their timbres in synergy.
Composer and arranger Oisín honed his skills touring and recording with
bands such as Villagers, Flyte, Hudson Taylor, and Bombay Bicycle Club.
A natural frontman, Ferdia found fame on the silver screen starring in Sing
Street, as well as roles in the multi-Oscar-winning film CODA, Pistol
(Danny Boyle), and Four Letters of Love (starring Pierce Brosnan and
Helena Bonham-Carter).
The Fynches’ previous single releases have been received to critical
acclaim, with radio play (RTÉ Radio 1) and lively TV performances (RTÉ
One’s ‘The Late, Late Show, Fanning At Whelans), as well as spirited
appearances at some of Ireland’s most iconic venues. In 2023, they
completed their first Irish tour, swiftly followed by an unforgettable show
with ‘The Coronas’ at King John's Castle in Limerick.
By self-titling the release of The Fynches the band are stamping the mark
of their identity. With the prolific work ethic of Ferdia and Oisín, and a
hoard of material already in wait, this album fires the starting gun for what
is to come from The Fynches.
