Overview

We’re celebrating the centenary of silent comedy classic, The General, starring Buster Keaton, with Neil Brand live on piano.

Join us for our Silent Movie Special with Neil Brand accompanying live on piano on Saturday 14 February, 6:30pm, at St John's Church, Epping.

Silent comedy classic, The General, stars Buster Keaton as a locomotive driver during the American Civil War. When his favourite engine, The General, is stolen by spies, the plucky driver gives chase - and chaos ensues. Shot using real engines and featuring the best slapstick of Keaton's career - if you've never seen a silent film before, this is the one to start with. A treat for everyone.

This film will be accompanied by world renowned pianist Neil Brand. Neil has been a silent film accompanist for over 30 years, regularly in London at the Barbican and BFI National Film Theatres, throughout the UK and at film festivals and special events around the world.

Neil is well-known as a TV presenter on BBC4 with his hugely successful series Sound of Cinema, The Music that Made the Movies and Sound of Song, is a regular presenter on Radio 4's Film Programme, a Fellow of Aberystwyth University and a Visiting Professor of the Royal College of Music and is considered one of the finest improvising piano accompanists in the world.

We are absolutely delighted to welcome him back to Epping.

We are also very grateful for the generous support of Maggie and Victor Knope who make this event possible.

Please note that this screening will take place at St John's Church, St John's Road, Epping, CM16 5DN. There are limited toilet facilities in the church, and please wrap up warm.

Tickets £12.50 including a drink (wine/soft drink)

Doors open half an hour before the film starts.
