Learn about the history of the building and education and training in Loughborough. Examine architects plans and discuss future uses of the building.
The Generator Loughborough was built to house the generators that supplied electricity to all the town-centre college buildings developed by Herbert Schofield, inspirational educationalist. Along with the adjoining four-storey brick building it housed the Art College, they are among the last remaining buildings from Schofield's time. The Generator is being renovated to become an arts and culture venue and is a currently a building site.
This event is part of the heritage fesitval weekend in Loughborough, alongside 10 other venues. Visit this link to see the other venues: https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/site-search.html?q=loughborough
Did anyone do their Foundation at Loughborough when it was at Frederick Street or perform or exhibit in The Generator building? Pasha Kincaid, our new Community Engagement Coordinator will be in Public, the cafe at the front, this Sat and Sun collecting and chatting about memories and memorabilia from the old Art School Building which is now being redeveloped into The Generator: a multipurpose arts and culture centre. Please come along whether you had a connection with the building in the past or if you'd like to have your say in shaping its future.
