Explore two of our recent episodic series; AppleTV+’s Foundation and HBO Max’s The Gilded Age, in this extended Deep Dive session. Though this historical drama and futuristic sci-fi series look and feel vastly different, this #DNEGDeepDive will uncover a common thread: DNEG-driven creativity and innovation. Foundation’s Jess Brown (VFX Producer), Giovanni Casadei (DFX Supervisor) and Farhad Mohasseb (DFX Supervisor) will discuss how they created the two-time VES Award-winning VFX to help bring this show’s tremendously complex visuals to life.

Meanwhile, Becky Graham (DNEG VFX Supervisor) and Mike Kwan (2D Compositing Supervisor) discuss transforming wintertime plate footage into a sunny 1880s New York City for The Gilded Age. Learn how their team used seamless set extensions, virtual production — and even an iPad app! — to convincingly craft a period setting.

Moderated by DNEG’s own Al Lopez (Head of Episodic, Montreal), this extended session will offer a compelling look behind the curtain at the work of our award-winning Episodic VFX team. After travelling back in time to revisit past work on these two hit shows, the session will wrap with a look towards DNEG Episodic’s future, and of course a live Q&A.
