Thank you for your interest in mentoring for The Girls' Network!
We are delighted to announce more mentor training sessions for our London region. Please be aware that you cannot be matched to a mentee until you have completed training and you have current and valid DBS check (police check).
The mentor training session will run from 5.30pm - 8.30pm and will start promptly. During the session you will receive an introduction to the organisation and it's origins, and we will explore what mentoring is and how to mentor effectively. We will also look at our mentoring programme outline in some detail and go through important elements of how to safeguard the girls we work with.
There will be some light refreshments, but please do bring something more substantial to eat, should you wish.
What should I bring?
- Pen and paper
- Your original DBS certificate, if you have one (enhanced, no more than 2 years old)
- If you do not have a current DBS, please follow the instructions below.
Instructions for obtaining a DBS check
1.) Before you attend, you must complete a profile here (if you do not already have a current DBS). The log-in details for the site are in your most recent e-mail from The Girls' Network, inviting you to training.
2.) You must also bring 3 forms of ID. One of these one of these one of these must be your passport or driving license. For the other two, you can provide any of the following: passport, driving license, a bank statement (issued in the last 3 months), a gas bill, electricity bill, water bill or council tax statement (issued in the last 12 months.
3) Fill out, print out, and bring along the DBS ID form attached to your email invite to training. This speeds up the ID checks we carry out at training.
3.) DBS checks cost £10 which will ask you to cover on the evening, either with cash or via BACS transfer. Details of this were sent in the initial e-mail welcoming you to mentor.
If you are unable to produce these documents at the beginning of training, we will not be able to allow you into the training session.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you cannot attend so that we can open up the space to someone else.
