The Glass-House Community Led Design presents Putting People in their Place, a national debate series in partnership with The Academy of Urbanism, aimed at getting people talking about placemaking. Bringing together key speakers from the development, community and design sectors, this year’s series hopes to discover what the real priorities of placemaking are today in the UK.

About the series

The Glass-House annual debate series provides an excellent opportunity for everyone with an interest in great placemaking and community led initiatives to come together to share experiences and learn from one another.

The past number of years have presented immense challenges and transformations for the economic, political and social landscapes. Community involvement and leadership in the design and planning process are playing an increasingly fundamental role, and now more than ever before, built environment professionals are considering how they can work more collaboratively with communities, and how communities will shape and influence their work.

We want to look at how the concept of value has evolved in this environment. We’re asking: how does engaging with local people in the development process bring value to a project? What is the value of great design to the users of these places and spaces? And where is the benefit for those who invest most financially in this process?
