Event description

Members of The Orchestra of Stowe Opera

Charles Sewart leader
Robert Secret – conductor

Tristram Cooke – Counter Tenor
Peter Martin – Theorbo and Baroque Guitar
Celia Redgate – Flute
Julian Metzger – Cello

Music to evoke this wonderful city including:

Arias from Cavalli’s opera La Calisto
Vivaldi Concertos including ‘L’amoroso’, the Guitar Concerto in D major, the Cello Concerto in B minor, and the Flute Concerto Il Gardellino’ (The Goldfinch).

La Calisto was first performed in Venice in 1651. It was revived by Raymond Leppard for Glyndebourne in 1970 where audiences were bowled over by the beauty of the music. Tristram will be singing some of the arias given to Endimione. Endimione was sung by James Bowman in the Glyndebourne production. The selection of Vivaldi Concertos shows the variety of instruments Vivaldi wrote for and what evening of music about Venice would be complete without his music?
