Featuring:
First Time Dave
Dave is the Reading Poetry Slam's most winningest (it's a word) poet, and is a previous Archimedes Screw Showcase champion. He mixes the serious and the silly, the personal and the political, and is continually amazed when people pay him to read poetry. Result! He's cycling around the country on this tour in honor of his good friend Lizzie Lee who passed away last year.
Ricky Tart
Local Favourite the multi talented Ricky Tart runs Tricky Art, an education based project organisation, using poetry, film, music and art to engage learners. He has published a book of narrative poetry called ‘Crockodogopig’, which follows Ned Crockodogopig and his friend Darren Hippopotomouse as they confront the evil, thieving Gerald Kangalouse.
He has supported Boothby Graffoe, been employed by Richard O’Brien, played successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival and has recently debuted his scratch show ‘I Read The News’ which he is planning to tour around the UK.
Stewart Taylor
Southampton's poetry legend Stewart is also an Archimedes Screw Showcase champion, the Hammer and Tongue Oxford champion 2013 and a National Slam finalist 2014. expect quirky wit and theatricality from the wordmeat pieman. Come nibble his wares. Mmmm, tasty! (Apologies to vegetarians.)
Open Mike - come share your words on the night - limited spaces.
Accessibility info:-
The event is suitable for adults, young people and older children - children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!).
The event is held on our first floor, which is accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner, and seating is provided. We regret that, due to space and other constraints, we are unable to relocate this particular event to the ground floor for those who require level access - so sorry.
Travel information:-
We are a city centre venue and parking can be in short supply. If you are driving, please make sure you leave plenty of time to find a space click here for a map of where the nearest parking spaces can be found.
We are about 10 minutes walk from Southampton City Centre train station and on the route for most city centre buses.
