The Gospel in an Age of Science
About this event
Two webinars with Paul Ewart and Ian Benson to discuss the presentation of the Christian Gospel in today’s world in which Science is perceived as the only source of truth and the Gospel as out-of-date superstition.
Paul Ewart is a professor of Physics at Oxford University and Chair of Christians in Science. Ian Benson is Coordinator of the Missionary Training Service www.missionarytraining.org, and UK Coordinator of the 2414 Coalition for world evangelisation – www.2414now.net, former missionary in Chile working in theological education, founder of the Evangelical Training Directory endorsed by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) as a central database of evangelical training worldwide - www.etdi.org, and former Associate Director of the International Missionary Training Network of the WEA - www.theimtn.org
Tuesday 1st June at 7.00 pm. A Scripturally Coherent view of Science
Why is science seen as a problem both by believers and unbelievers? In the first webinar Paul Ewart will present some Biblically-based principles for presenting the Gospel in a secular culture influenced by the scientific world-view.
Tuesday 8th June at 7.00 pm. A Scientifically Coherent view of the Gospel
In this webinar Ian Benson will deal with communicating the Gospel in a way which relates key Gospel themes to modern science.
A. Evidences for God's love in creation (e.g. in physical properties of the universe, CO2 cycle, water cycle, DNA, biological convergence to ecological niches).
B. Taking evolution and the massive suffering and death in biological processes seriously, together with the destruction caused by the selfishness of human beings - and the accompanying suffering and death of Jesus Christ, as He suffers for us and with us.
C. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ as the turning point of history, and new hope and new community in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Purpose in life transforming this world for God our King, tapping into people's concern for the environment, justice, and community.
D. Invitation to receive adoption by God our Father, forgiveness, and to join in His purpose for the universe.
