Event description

Description

The Hansard Society are holding the Great EU Debate event at the University of Nottingham on May 7th 2014 at 5pm and I would like to invite you and your students to attend.

The Great EU Debate will bring together approximately 150 young people (16-21), with politicians, policy-makers, campaigners, journalists and academics to debate and discuss four key issues:

1. Youth unemployment and the EU: is it helping?

2. Is freedom of movement a one way street?

3. Do we need a referendum?

4. Closer or further? The UK’s future in the EU.

With elections to the European Parliament just a couple of weeks after the event, it’s a great opportunity for you students to learn more about the EU and question MEPs. To make the event as interactive as possible, we will use electic voting buttons so all students can have an impact on proceedings.

To support you in organising the attendance and safe journey home of your students, a travel bursary of up to £10 per student (and member of staff) is available and food and soft drinks will be provided at the venue.

I do hope that you and your students will accept our invitation to attend. If you have any queries or would like to book your places please contact me at: michael.raftery@hansardsociety.org.uk or 020 710 6073.
